IWSC Whisky Producer of the year 2020

Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery has won the “Worldwide Whisky Producer” category at the world’s largest alcohol competition, the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC).

The prestigious competition, held in London, featured hundreds of entries from around the globe. This year, Teerenpeli competed in the finals for the title of World’s Best Whisky Producer alongside Taiwan’s Kavalan Distillery, Canada’s Sazerac Company, and Australia’s The Lark Distillery. Scottish distilleries competed in a separate category.

“For us, even receiving the first-ever nomination for Finland was a great honor. But actually winning the category is an incredible recognition of nearly 20 years of work,” says Samuli Korhonen, CEO of Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery.

Teerenpeli Group’s founder and CEO, Anssi Pyysing, calls the win a surprise but believes it is well deserved.

“Teerenpeli whisky is made from truly unique ingredients on a global scale: the world’s purest groundwater filtered through the Salpausselkä ridges, and barley grown in nearby fields and malted in Lahti. When you add all the experience, skill, and passion Teerenpeli brings to whisky distilling, there’s no other outcome than the world’s best whisky,” he says.

The IWSC had already recognized several Teerenpeli whiskies with top honors earlier in the summer. Winning the Whisky Producer of the Year award now crowns Teerenpeli’s rise to the ranks of world-class whisky makers, Korhonen concludes.
