For Teerenpeli, sustainability is fair play for everyone in everything we do — as an employer and entrepreneur, as a quality beverage producer and as an environmentally conscious restaurant operator. In practice, it is a series of small actions and choices we make every day.
Renewable energy We use electricity generated by wind and hydro power in our bars and restaurants. We optimise energy consumption with modern solutions that reduce emissions and save resources.
Green cleanliness choices We use environmentally friendly detergents and waterless urinals that save water without compromising hygiene.
Food waste minimisation and smart recycling Our kitchens are creative in tackling food waste. We sell food that would otherwise remain uneaten through the ResQ Club, and we sort and recycle waste responsibly.
Less packaging, smaller footprint We choose products that have a lower impact on the climate — also in terms of packaging.
Own carbon neutral power plant Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery has its own power plant that uses recycled wood — carbon neutral pellets — to produce heat. The climate impact of a pellet power plant is about 90% lower than that of oil or gas.
To develop our operations in a more climate-friendly direction, we decided to find out the climate impact of the manufacturing of our products. In 2021, we carried out our first carbon footprint calculation project at Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery, calculating the carbon footprint of five different beverage product groups both at the brewery gate and delivered to a restaurant. The second calculation project was carried out in 2025 to verify the impact of the measures taken on the carbon footprint.
We use our own wood pellet power plant as a source of production energy for the Teerenpeli brewery and distillery. The energy source is wood pellets, a by-product of the forest industry. Our carbon footprint report shows that the pellet power plant produces 950 megawatt hours of energy per year. The pellet power plant’s energy is 100% renewable and its climate impact is about 90% lower than that of other energy sources. The plant has been in operation since 2015.
In 2024, Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery updated it’s bottle model for whiskies and other distillery products to a more ecological one. The new bottle model is 40% lighter than the previous glass bottle and contains a quarter of recycled glass. The design of the whisky bottle and its packaging has also taken into account pallet sizes to ensure that the bottles are packed as tightly as possible for transport. The packaging materials for Teerenpeli’s whiskies account for half of the product’s carbon footprint, which means that the new bottle design has significantly reduced the carbon footprint.
A fair and respectful working community At Teerenpeli, everyone is allowed to be themselves. We do not tolerate bullying, harassment or discrimination — ever.
Equality and local agreement We believe in openness, cooperation and fair treatment. We take decisions locally and together.
Bonus for good work When we succeed, we share the success with our employees in the form of bonuses.
Bold choices We are proud to have the courage to make decisions and stand by our values. We make conscious choices that reflect long-term sustainability, transparency and ambition. We dare to stand out, and in doing so we create space for growth, creativity and sustainable development — together.
Quality from field to bottle We distil our whisky from Finnish barley and local groundwater — the purest in the world. Quality comes from local raw materials and pride in doing things right, and that translates into international awards.
Local resources at the core We use locally sourced ingredients and foster local restaurant culture in eight locations around Finland.
Cooperation and development We work extensively with local players to develop the restaurant and beverage culture. In spring 2025, we launched Vaalea Ruis pale rye lager, in which a quarter of the malt has been replaced by Fazer’s waste rye bread. Teerenpeli Distillery works in close cooperation with Nordic distilleries to strengthen the region’s whisky category worldwide.
